The independent research group GrOVis (Graphics-Optics-Vision) at the Max-Planck-Institute for Informatik in Saarbrücken, Germany is working on solutions to scientific challenges in the fields of Computer Graphics, Applied Optics and Computer Vision. In one of their projects the team proposes a digital projection module adapted to an astronomical telescope to overlay the telescope image with additional images, animations or extended data from the projection unit in the eyepiece.

OpSys Project Consulting received the order to develop the complete projection module and to incorporate demands of the specific projection situation given by viewing situations with an astronomical telescope, i.e. prevention of stray light, adaptation to light intensity situations during night or a special broadband 45° combining mirror with 90:10 splitting ratio. Together with the partners in the Virtual Engineering Network the project was successfully completed.
